5G Mobile Timing Solutions
Mobile network architectures have been drastically impacted by the need for higher speeds, higher bandwidth and lower latency in this new era of global connectivity. 5G technology is rapidly emerging to address these needs and to provide reliable, robust and high-quality services to end users around the world. The connectivity, speed and performance unleashed by this leading-edge technology is driving advances in hand-held mobile devices, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, smart homes and an array of Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

These next generation 5G networks require highly accurate synchronization to enable end-to-end nodes to meet the extremely tight time accuracy requirement of ±130 ns. While 4G networks relied on GPS receivers at every cell site to act as time sources, 5G networks use the IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) as the primary method to synchronize time across devices. Our portfolio of synchronization products has the performance and features you need for implementing accurate time performance in your leading-edge 5G designs.
The PTP implementation supports both ITU-T profiles, ITU-T G.8265.1 for frequency and ITU-T G.8275.1 for frequency and phase. This allows to provide accurate frequency and phase synchronization over packet networks to all network elements requiring synchronization, including 4G/5G base stations as well as LTE advanced networks. Our system can act as a Telecom Grandmaster for thousands of clients.

RAN
Radio equipment, including Radio Units (RUs) and Remote Radio Heads (RRHs), is fundamental in wireless infrastructure. With mobile traffic demand projected to grow exponentially over the next few years, networks are being designed to deliver a greater number of connections, as well as higher bandwidth per connection. To support these objectives, 5G is expected to drive radio bandwidth >10x.
We offer a complete timing solution to quickly enable frequency and phase synchronization and reliably operate it in a field deploymentDistributed Unit (DU)
In a 5G network, the DU performs the classic modem functionality of a base station. The DU is typically deployed within the RAN and may be placed very close to the 5G cell tower.
Central Unit (CU)
In a 5G network, the CU enables consolidation of upper layer protocols and management across multiple DUs. Envisioned to be implemented in a datacenter type format, the CU enables cost-effective implementation of very-high-capacity-networks.
We offer high-reliability, high-performance and network-proven solutions in our portfolio of SyncE, IEEE 1588, oscillators and clock management products. These innovative technologies are available to address the design challenges of 5G network infrastructure with innovative technologies and meet your most stringent requirements
Aggregation/Front Haul
Stratumone is a family of solutions based on a hardware platform with a choice of oscillators that can be complemented by optional expansion modules and by unique differentiating software options that are made available in successive releases. We provides a Precise Timing Grandmaster with Gateway Clock, High Accuracy and Redundancy which are vital to provide 5G wireless services.
Edge/distribution Grand Master clock
- GM will be deployed by CU in order to comply the requirement 5G 3GPP.
- GM can be deployed at the station building with GNSS extender.
- GM for outdoor model can be deployed next to the station building.
